May 7th Event at Ft. Mason, San Francisco on STORY TELLING

What a day we had at Ft. Mason…what a beautiful day…both in weather and company.
First, thanks so much to Jeff Saperstein (sapermktg@earthlink.net) for gathering the storytellers! The day was magical…it is hard to put into words the powerful stories that were shared by Jeff, Darshana Nadkarni, Laleh Shahidi, Jim Schuyler and Eileen Clegg. Jeff told a couple of stories about the founding of the US and from the bible…a great foundation for the stories that followed.
Following Jeff was Laleh (laleh.shahidi@activepathsolutions.com) and her perspective on the history of the women’s movement in Iran and her last visit “home”. She should take these stories on the road or write them down…very powerful. What I got out of it was the amazing determination of the women in Iran…facing some of the most brutal opposition to what they are striving for…they continue…and make inroads…and they have been working on this quest for a lot longer than women in most cultures!!! Sometime ask her to tell you her stories!
Then we have the beautiful written words that Darshana (wd_darshana@hotmail.com) shared with us about memories with her mother and her father. Her father passed away so very recently…it was hard for all of us to make it through without a tear or two shared with Darshana. I know we all send you healing thoughts…thanks for sharing.
Jim Schuyler (jim@red7.com) shared stories about the work he is doing with the Dalai Lama Foundation and teens about ethics. It is so nice to know that there are people working on helping the next generations better off.
Finally we had the pleasure to view the powerful murals Eileen (eclegg@monitor.net) drew from the stories (see the end of the gallery at the link below). Eileen has a wonderful way of converting words and thoughts into imagery. Her new website is ALMOST up… www.visualinsight.net … we will let you know when it is up.
