From Eileen Clegg:

Dear Colleague-Friends:

Usually I am writing about future mapping or visual journalism but this is something completely different I’d like to share: —The revival of a book on strengthening relationships between parents and grown children called “Becoming a Wise Parent for Your Grown Child.” —Ten years ago (that would be 50 Silicon Valley years ago)…I co-wrote this book with family therapist Betty Frain.

Now we’ve been “discovered”! Our book (and we) appear in the “special feature” on the DVD for “Failure to Launch” and we have published a second edition: http://www.trafford.com/4dcgi/view-item?item=17167. —Book website www.becomingawiseparent.com.

All the best!
-Eileen

From Jerry to be shared with the group:

Creating the Conscious Corporation, a talk for the South Bay Organizational Development Network. I’ll explore the implications of treating organizations as capable of consciousness, rather than treating them as essentially dumb machines. How qould you manage if you wanted to cultivate a more conscious organization? How would we go about problem solving? The talk is Monday, August 7th. See the SBODN site ( http://sbodn.com/directions.html) for directions and more information. Please note that we’re meeting at the new SBODN site in Palo Alto.

I will also be teaching a UCSC-Extension class on Process Improvement for the Rest of Us, an introduction to the world of process improvement without the Black Belts and heavy statistics. This course is designed to make PI accessible to the manager or individual contributor explroing how a stronger process definition could benefit their company. You’ll take a work flow in your own company as the case material for exploring how to define and assess a process, and how to structure a process improvement effort. The class meets all day on August 5th in Cupertino.

Please also note the new upcoming class on Creating the Process Focused Organization. This is for anyone who wants to understand what you need besides training and a toolkit to make an organization more receptive to process changes.

See the UCSC site

Saturday, July 15th had two informal NextNow little things…

We had a little dinner of NextNow people in addition to two other great friend…Scott Lawley and Victoria Hayden.— Some of you might know Scott from AcrossWorld (none of you know him from his 2 year sentence…I mean relocation to North Dakota).— Victoria we met through Betsy Burroughs.— Victoria has salons at her home in Palo Alto too.

The others were Jerry Talley, Jeff Saperstein, Amy Jussel, Joy Tang, Betsy Burroughs and me.— Many interesting conversation thread.

This brings me to the second little thing that happend…Claudia Brenner wanted to come to the dinner BUT she was in Bodege Bay at a friend of her’s birthday party…well here comes the small world aspect.

I told Claudia to look-up and call Eileen Clegg who lives there.— I was talking to Claudia on the phone…she asked where Eileen lived…I said on a golf course overlooking the bay…Claudia says she is at a house on a golf course…she says what street is Eileen on…I said CONDOR…Claudia says SHE IS ON CONDOR.— Turns out they are two homes away from one another.— They met for the first time and they have ALL sorts of things in common.

What a day!

First in the small world category..
