Even more member related events!  Comments

This note is a catch-up and reminder of things happening in the next couple of weeks…hope you can join in some of the events. SEE: for a more complete list…but the following is NEW.

Rachel Cohen rachel.cohen@mindspring.comSEPTEMBER 28th … this Friday … in Corte MaderaFriends,

If you haven’t yet heard me “kvell” (Yiddish for “gush wildly”) about the fact that my kid brother has just become a published author and is on his way to being the next Tony Robbins of the current era, then let this be the moment.

Mike’s spent the past 7 years building a successul motivational speaking, coaching and training career, following his release from major league baseball. His book “Focus on the Good Stuff: The Power of Appreciation” was just released last month by SF publisher Jossey-Bass, and is brandishing some good media (TV & Radio) attention, including a great article on Forbes.com covering the corporate perspective.

For you local Marinites, he’ll be speaking this Friday night at Book Passage in Corte Madera, 7pm. If you’ve not experienced his personal or speaking style, it’s a real treat. His charismatic, optimistic and down-to-earth approach can bring a smile to even the most hardened curmudgeon!

If you can’t make it Friday, but are interested in picking up a copy of the book, it’s available in most major bookstores, and of course, on Amazon (where it went to #4 overall and #1 in Self-Help the first week it was released!)

It would be fun to see you Friday. If not, thanks in advance for passing this on to interested folks and for considering purchasing his book! :) It’s a very cool read!

Thanks for your interest & support.

With Gratitude & Love,

Rachel

A Practical Framework for
Positive Social Change

“Global problems seem insurmountable; poverty, injustice, and environmental decay demand attention. Nevertheless, hope persists. The beginning of change is the recognition that things can be different. Next comes a drive toward empowerment, an action plan, and the development of effective programs and organizations based on vision and principles.” So writes Anne Firth Murray, author of Paradigm Found: Leading and Managing for Positive Change and Founding President of The Global Fund for Women. Drawing on her extensive experience in the international philanthropic world and particularly on the founding and growth of The Global Fund for Women, Murray provides practical advice for others who want to effect positive change.

Murray, a New Zealander and one of the 1,000 women nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2005, serves on several boards and advisory groups. She advises organizations on principles-based development, leadership, governance, and management. She is currently a consulting professor at StanfordUniversity, where she teaches courses on international women’s health and human rights. Ms. Murray serves on several boards and councils of non-profit organizations, including the <http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=ac7ziecab.0.zpq8vecab.rau9h8bab.316&ts=S0273&p=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.awdf.org%2F>African Women’s Development Fund, Commonweal, <http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=ac7ziecab.0.9pq8vecab.rau9h8bab.316&ts=S0273&p=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.graceusa.org%2F>GRACE (a group working on HIV/AIDS in East Africa), <http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=ac7ziecab.0.8pq8vecab.rau9h8bab.316&ts=S0273&p=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.hesperian.org%2F>Hesperian Foundation, and UNNITI (a women’s foundation in India). PARADIGM FOUND: Leading and Managing for Positive Change is both a personal story and a handbook for positive change, leading the reader through the journey from the beginning of an organization to the transition from its founding leadership.

The spiral images that appear on the cover of Paradigm Found are “koru” which, in the Maori language of New Zealand, symbolize not only the unfolding of the fern frond striving toward the light but also a new beginning, renewal, and hope for the future.

TOOLS NEWS AVAILABLE TO NEXTNOW GROUP (and related groups)

MEATSAUCE from <mailto:philpaisley@interbill.biz>PHIL PAISLEY <philpaisley@interbill.biz>

Maybe you could use an internet service I developed for myself and the non-profit Land Trust groups I am involved with. The domain is <http://www.meetsauce.com/>www.meetsauce.com. We are beta testing the site and would love as many people to use it and give us feedback on how it works for them as possible.

The site is free for now and we will extend the free use to anyone who helps us beta test the site for a very long time.

I developed it because I was having trouble and spending an inordinate amount of time getting people to agree on meeting times and locations. We do not have a standard meeting location so I am always balancing attendance against availability of location.

My associate did a lot of research to find tools and there are three sites out there that are designed for meeting scheduling, but none did what I needed so we spent a bit of time and did our own. We also patented the concept.

Anyway, this is working well for me and you are free to use it if you want.

I understand using any new tool is difficult, but I thought I would share this with you just in case. I will be glad to help you with using it.

Cheers….

Phil Paisley
