Dear friends and colleagues,

After <http://blueoxen.list-manage.com/track/click?u=4bdca8ff4c02cbf0342cc9f71&id=2f4d352610&e=18f7596c4c>Blue Oxen Associates celebrated its 5th Anniversary in late 2007, two interesting things happened. First, I got the opportunity to work with an amazing network of community leaders in Africa and South Asia, developing and implementing strategies for catalyzing their collaborative potential. (I’ll be publishing the outcomes of this project soon.) Second, I did a lot of soul searching.

Our <http://blueoxen.list-manage.com/track/click?u=4bdca8ff4c02cbf0342cc9f71&id=9db8e89e8c&e=18f7596c4c>larger vision is to maximize society’s collaborative intelligence. To do this, we’ve worked with a <http://blueoxen.list-manage.com/track/click?u=4bdca8ff4c02cbf0342cc9f71&id=5f52332e1e&e=18f7596c4c>wide range of companies, government agencies, foundations, and nonprofits, identifying, applying, and refining best practices and tools. We’ve been proactively involved in initiatives regarding leadership, digital identity, usability, philanthropy, and a number of other important topics. We’ve led experiential learning workshops where we’ve brought together many of the marvelous people in our community.

We’ve done a number of good things, but it felt like we could be doing more. I spent much of 2008 trying to figure out what to do next. In some ways, I’m still trying to figure this out, and I’m sure this will be an ongoing process. But I did come to a few conclusions:

I’m still passionate about this work.
I want to <http://blueoxen.list-manage.com/track/click?u=4bdca8ff4c02cbf0342cc9f71&id=79f8f659db&e=18f7596c4c>share more stories.

We’ve been making some changes over the past few months to help fulfill this latter goal.

New Web Site and Blog

We recently revamped our <http://blueoxen.list-manage.com/track/click?u=4bdca8ff4c02cbf0342cc9f71&id=7d13a06a49&e=18f7596c4c>web site and relaunched <http://blueoxen.list-manage.com/track/click?u=4bdca8ff4c02cbf0342cc9f71&id=27bf2f3f2e&e=18f7596c4c>our blog. I encourage you to check out both. (If you’d rather follow us through our blog rather than over email, unsubscription information is below.) We also started a podcast as part of our blog, entitled <http://blueoxen.list-manage.com/track/click?u=4bdca8ff4c02cbf0342cc9f71&id=049807ea09&e=18f7596c4c>Blue Oxen Barnstars, where we highlight great stories in our community. We plan on sharing much more information through the web site, including comprehensive summaries of all of the work we’ve done in the past.

Survey on Organizational Collaborative Behavior

We’re trying to get a broader sense for how effectively organizations collaborate. As a first step, we have created a <http://blueoxen.list-manage.com/track/click?u=4bdca8ff4c02cbf0342cc9f71&id=39301fd8b2&e=18f7596c4c>survey, and we’re trying to get as large a sample as possible. We’re especially interested in the behaviors of small businesses and nonprofits. Please fill it out and share the <http://blueoxen.list-manage.com/track/click?u=4bdca8ff4c02cbf0342cc9f71&id=50fb8e56e5&e=18f7596c4c>link with others.

We’ll be publishing the results of the survey under a Creative Commons license, free for all to use and share. You’ll be contributing to a good cause, and you’ll have the opportunity to see how your organization compares to others.

Sensemaking Series

We recently launched an online coaching series called the <http://blueoxen.list-manage.com/track/click?u=4bdca8ff4c02cbf0342cc9f71&id=72aea9d80e&e=18f7596c4c>Sensemaking Series. It’s a four week, intensive, online coaching series centered around important topics related to collaboration. Upcoming topics include Wikis, Extreme Project Management, and Facilitation. If you’re interested in participating in any of these series, drop me an email.

Work With Us

As always, we’re interested in <http://blueoxen.list-manage.com/track/click?u=4bdca8ff4c02cbf0342cc9f71&id=d2caa4b2fd&e=18f7596c4c>working with passionate people on important, collaborative topics. If you’re interested in working with us on collaborative strategies, event design and facilitation, or commissioned research, please drop me an email.

Many thanks!

Hiya Jamapaloozers -

Wow, I have missed you peeps!— I’ve been home for 2 weeks now and finally felt
recovered yesterday.— Now I am ready to socialize again . . . and looking
forward to drumming with you and hanging out this Saturday.

7 PM Potluck dinner and drinks (Thanks for bringing stuff we like so if it is
leftover we eat and drink it the next day!)

8 or 8:30 ish – Noisy stuff – make music, sometimes it sounds like crap, but
we always have fun, nay?

10:30 ish – quieter stuff . . . bring dirty jokes to tell, or philosophically
deep readings from George Carlin.

Hugs!— Kimberly

This is very last minute, but there’s an opportunity here to present
a paper connecting decision-making and collaborative action research
with the public participation field.— I would love to submit a
workshop proposal but I’m traveling this week and won’t have the time
to pull it together.
Cheers!
